구광모, 젠슨 황과 ‘AI 회동’…LG “내년 초 휴머노이드 로봇 공개”

LG Electronics Group Chairman Jangwon Mo and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang have agreed to expedite cooperation in three areas: robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), and mobility. The two executives met twice in two months, with a strategic business collaboration agreement (MOU) signed in San Carlos, California, USA. LG plans to unveil a next-generation humanoid robot based on Nvidia's technology platform in the first quarter of next year.

During the meeting, Jangwon Mo, COO Lee Bong-seok, Chairman of LG Electronics, CEOs of LG Electronics, LG Uplus, LG CNS, and LG AI Research, as well as other key executives attended. The collaboration aims to set standards in key future industries and accelerate their expansion. LG will leverage Nvidia's platform for humanoid robots, AI data centers, and mobility.

Jangwon Mo emphasized that the collaboration will clarify challenges and build a reference model to accelerate AI diffusion. Jensen Huang added that the combination of LG's product engineering and manufacturing leadership with Nvidia's technology will lead the way for new developments in robotics, AI factories, and autonomous vehicles.

The next-generation humanoid robot, equipped with Nvidia's platform and a Jetson GPU, will be unveiled in the first quarter of next year. It will also feature actuators, sensors, and batteries from other LG subsidiaries, showcasing the company's competitive edge in physical AI. LG's home AI robot 'Clayton', with wheels on its legs, will be deployed at an LG Electronics manufacturing facility in Tennessee later this year for practical testing.

The two companies will operate a joint task force, comprising technology and business experts, to execute the collaboration. LG will strengthen its position as a "big hand" in the AI data center market by integrating Nvidia's AI factory platform (DSX) with the group's expertise in cooling, batteries, design, operations, and power solutions.

LG plans to expand its 80 megawatt (MW) AI data center facility in Cheonan, South Korea by the second half of next year. Additionally, LG will develop a next-generation AI-defined automobile (AIDV) by combining Nvidia's autonomous driving development platform with its vehicle infotainment and software capabilities.
