국가대표 AI 2차전 결과 발표 임박…4팀중 3팀만 생존

The government's 'Dedicated Artificial Intelligence (AI) Foundation Model' (DAPM) project has reached the final stages of its second evaluation process. Four teams – ELKI (AI Researcher and Upsage), SK Telecom's A.X K2, and Motif Technology – are competing for survival, each employing different strategies. Their models have all been recognized to a certain extent on the global stage as they have been included in the Epoch AI's 'Notable Artificial Intelligence Models' list.

The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning has completed the first round of national evaluation, involving 200 ordinary citizens. The evaluation included benchmark performance assessment and expert assessment. The ministry will now select one team to be eliminated in the upcoming week.

ELKI, which topped the first round, boosted its model size significantly, with a parameter count of 750 billion, three times larger than the previous round. ELKI focuses on long-context understanding, an agent, coding ability in this model. SK Telecom's A.X K2 model concentrated on Korean language and mathematical abilities, as well as processing long contexts.

It uses a proprietary technique to prioritize critical past tokens when handling lengthy documents, boosting performance in long-context understanding and agent evaluation. Upstage presented a smaller and more efficient model, the Solana Open 2, which can process up to 1 million tokens despite its small size. Motif Technology, which joined the second round after an additional call, highlighted its self-designed technique for efficient computation and memory usage.

It reduces the influence of irrelevant information during long-context reading and minimizes memory usage by compressing information. Motif 3 scored the highest in the 'Artificial Intelligence Intelligence Index' (AAII) calculated by AI analysis institution, APPraisals, receiving 47 points. The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning plans to support the development of necessary hardware such as graphics processing units, and the final two teams will be chosen for the championship at the end of the year.
