Accord dismisses factional chairman’s support for Osun APC gov candidate

The Accord Party has rejected the support of its expelled former presidential candidate, Chris Imumolen, for the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji. Imumolen, who is the factional presidential candidate and the Factional National Chairman of the party, had announced that the party has withdrawn its backing for Governor Ademola Adeleke and now supports Oyebamiji.

The party's National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, stated in a statement that Imumolen's presence at an APC campaign rally in Osogbo where he endorsed Oyebamiji indicated that he was no longer a member of the Accord. The party dismissed the term "factional chairman" for Imumolen, asserting that there is no faction within the party and that Imumolen has no political influence.

Accord claimed that Imumolen's attendance at the APC rally in Osogbo demonstrated that he was not a member of the party and did not represent it in any capacity. The party expressed confidence in Governor Ademola Adeleke's victory in the upcoming August 15 governorship election, describing Osun as a stronghold of the party. Accord also accused the APC of using violence, harassment, intimidation, and federal institutions to suppress the Osun government, residents, and Accord members.

The party called for a neutral and credible electoral process and for international organizations to monitor the election and sanction any parties compromising the process.
