“살았을 때도, 떠날 때도 멋있었던 사람”…4명에 새 생명 준 50대 미용사

A 50-year-old beautician, known for her compassionate care of homeless and bedridden individuals, generously donated organs to four recipients and passed away, leaving a profound impact on those around her. The Korean Organ Donation Foundation announced on the 13th that Kim Eun-mi (55) had donated her heart, lungs, liver, and kidneys to four patients at Seoul Catholic University Medical Center in Gyeonggi-do's Itaewon City on the 21st of last month.

In 2018, Kim Eun-mi began experiencing persistent headaches and dizziness, eventually leading to a diagnosis of multi-system failure (a degenerative condition affecting multiple bodily functions). Her condition worsened on the 12th of last month when she suddenly experienced breathing difficulties at home, losing consciousness and eventually slipping into a coma. Despite her wishes to donate her organs, she remained in a vegetative state, unable to recover her consciousness.

Her sister revealed that the siblings had previously discussed the possibility of organ donation during their final moments together. The sister expressed her gratitude to the family for respecting their decision and allowing the donation to take place. The late Kim Eun-mi, the youngest of two children, had devoted her life to her beauty salon business for 30 years, while also pursuing a master's degree.

Known for her outgoing personality, she enjoyed engaging in conversations and outdoor activities such as golf and hiking. Family gatherings were a cherished part of her life, and she often suggested family meals at home.

Kim Eun-mi was also actively involved in helping others, including her neighbors, by participating in a long-standing initiative to assist homeless individuals and elderly residents with hair grooming. She regularly contributed to charitable causes, demonstrating her willingness to help those in need. Her sister fondly remembered her words, "She said that even though she lived a life that was admired, she left in a manner that was admired as well."

In her final moments, she expressed a hope that she would be well-loved and thrive in her afterlife.
