12 nabbed after bomoh syndicate cons victims of RM600,000

Twelve individuals have been apprehended in connection to a bombastic syndicate in Sabah, Malaysia, which allegedly conned victims out of about RM600,000 worth of cash and jewelry. The syndicate, which had been in operation since the beginning of the year, came to light following a series of raids conducted in Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Keningau, and Kota Belud.

The syndicate's tactics revolved around offering services related to traditional medicine, disease treatment, and religious rituals aimed at warding off bad luck. These services were provided by a woman who purportedly possessed the ability to predict fortunes and perform certain rituals. The victims were then persuaded to hand over their cash or jewelry, which was subsequently taken or swapped for other items placed in plastic bags or other containers.

Sabah deputy police commissioner Azhar Hamin revealed that the suspects targeted a total of 12 individuals during the raids, seven of which were Chinese nationals. The investigation is currently underway, targeting the individuals involved in the cheating, which is classified under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
