Zlatko Dalic appointed UAE national team coach

The UAE Football Association has announced the appointment of Zlatko Dalic as the new head coach of the national team. Dalic, a Croatian, brings extensive experience to the role, having previously managed Al Ain from 2014 to 2017. Reports indicate that Dalic has agreed to a four-year contract, which will run until the end of the qualification cycle for the 2030 World Cup. Despite leaving his position as Croatia's manager following the 2026 World Cup, Dalic is set to make an immediate impact on the UAE team.

Dalic, 59, previously led Croatia to the final in 2018 and to third place in the 2019 Asian Cup. His tenure in UAE football includes a successful period with Al Ain, where he won the Pro League, President's Cup, and Super Cup. The UAE FA has not disclosed specific details of the contract, but it is clear that Dalic will be tasked with turning around the national team's World Cup qualification efforts.

Dalic's appointment comes after the sacking of Cosmin Olaroiu, who failed to secure the team's World Cup qualification. The Romanian was replaced by Dalic, who is expected to build on Al Ain's success with the UAE team. The national team will participate in the Gulf Cup from September 23 to October 6 and the Asian Cup next January, both hosted by Saudi Arabia.

Dalic's arrival is seen as a positive move for the UAE national team, especially with the goal of qualifying for the 2030 World Cup hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. The UAE has only ever reached the finals once before, in 1990, making this a critical period for the team's development.
