Woman dies after falling into crater; villagers launch flash protest seeking action against PWD officers

In Bailhongal taluk, Belagavi district, a woman named Mallavva Suresh Viveki, 44, tragically died after falling into a pit that was being dug for bridge repairs. The deep pit, intended for the construction of a bridge column on the Bailahongal-Munavalli main road, claimed the life of the woman who was out for a walk. Protestors took her body to the main road and blocked it for over an hour, alleging that the embankments were left open and dangerous, with water accumulating without any safety measures in place.

They had previously warned the contractor about the issue, but their concerns went unaddressed. The villagers demanded action against the contractor and the PWD officers responsible for the project. The police intervened, calling the PWD officers to the station and ensuring that the guilty parties would face consequences. The protest dispersed following the police assurance.
