William Kisang Elected New Senate Energy Committee Chairperson

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator William Kisang has been elected Chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Energy, succeeding Dr. Oburu Oginga. Kisang won unopposed in a vote held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. Beatrice Ogola, another nominated senator, was also elected unopposed as the new Vice-Chairperson. This change followed Oburu's resignation on August 6, 2026. Kisang previously served as the committee's Vice-Chairperson.

Speaking after his election, Kisang expressed gratitude to members for trusting him with leadership, acknowledging the challenge of succeeding Oburu. He described Oginga as a political giant who greatly enhanced the committee's profile, promising to maintain the committee's momentum. Kisang also requested the committee to maintain consultations to assist in their oversight responsibilities.

Ogola, in her acceptance remarks, promised to continue the agenda established by the outgoing leadership and urged Oginga to remain available for guidance. Oginga congratulated Kisang and urged committee members to support him as he takes over. Oginga explained his resignation due to his office's demands, emphasizing his willingness to remain a member of the committee and assist as needed.
