We will help you fight quackery, impersonation – Police, FRSC tell NUJ

The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, CP Michael Falade, and the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the Ekiti region, Sanya Adeoye, have pledged their support to the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in their efforts to combat quackery and impersonation within the journalism profession.

During a courtesy call in Ado Ekiti, CP Falade assured the NUJ's Anti-Quackery Task Force of the Police's readiness to collaborate within the confines of the law to curb journalists who impersonate and engage in practices that may tarnish the integrity and credibility of the profession. The Commissioner emphasized the Police's commitment to maintaining an open-door policy and constructive engagement with the media.

CP Falade also expressed gratitude to the journalists in Ekiti for their cooperation, professionalism, and support in disseminating reliable information and promoting public awareness on security and crime prevention.

Corps Commander Adeoye of the FRSC acknowledged the invaluable assistance provided by Ekiti journalists in disseminating information and raising awareness on proper road usage, stating that road safety is a collective responsibility. The FRSC commander reaffirmed the readiness of his command to aid the NUJ in its endeavor to eliminate the misuse of NUJ stickers on vehicles, ensuring that only legitimate journalists utilize these accreditations.

Adeoye highlighted that while the FRSC provides the Union with certain privileges, their partnership would enable the detection of non-journalists who use press credentials to carry out illicit activities. The NUJ delegation, led by the Union's Vice Chairman, Olayinka Ilori, and Chairman of the Anti-Quackery Committee, Abiodun Olofe, had invited the Police and FRSC to join forces in enforcing stringent measures against imposters in the state who seek to undermine the journalism profession.
