‘VIP 격노 은폐 혐의’ 황유성 전 방첩사령관 구속영장 기각

The former Chief of the Anti-Aircraft Gun Division, Han Yu-sung, who faced allegations of being involved in a "VIP anger" cover-up during the Chae Sang-bum's self-immolation incident, had his arrest warrant rejected. Judge Jong-ook of Seoul Central District Court dismissed the warrant on December 12, stating that there was no room for dispute in criminal accusations and no concern about the suspect fleeing.

Han Yu-sung was in charge of the Anti-Aircraft Gun Division during the Chae Sang-bum incident and along with former Army Chief of Staff, Yun Seok-jeol, reported the incident outcome to President Yoon Suk-yeol. The warrant was also rejected for former Army Chief of Staff, Mun Dae-ryeong, who faced similar accusations. The Joint Special Investigation Team suspected that the Anti-Aircraft Gun Division had been involved in the incident's handling in an organized manner.

The team requested arrest warrants for both Han Yu-sung and Mun Dae-ryeong on July 7 after confirming that they had tried to prevent the gathering of intelligence during the Chae Sang-bum incident. The two individuals had regularly communicated with each other during various stages of the incident handling, with a total of 14 phone calls between Han Yu-sung and Mun Dae-ryeong from August 3, 2023, to August 24, 2023.

The Special Investigation Team, led by former National Intelligence Service Director, Ihm Jin-kyu, investigated that Han Yu-sung had called several high-ranking government officials following the Chae Sang-bum incident, including former National Defense Minister Ihm Jin-kyu, former National Security Advisor Choi Taek, former National Security Council Deputy Director Kim Jae-gon, and President Yoon's Chief of Staff Lee Won. The Joint Special Investigation Team is currently investigating the matter.
