US teen turns struggles into help for homeless

Natalia Kleinrichert, a 17-year-old senior at Bishop Dwenger High School, has transformed her own difficult childhood experiences into a growing initiative to help homeless individuals in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The young activist founded the grassroots organization R.E.A.C.H., which stands for "Reach Everyone Always with a Caring Heart," using her personal medical challenges as motivation to support those facing adversity.

In 2025, Kleinrichert managed to raise $6,800 and distribute 100 "blessing bags" filled with practical supplies such as food, toiletries, and everyday necessities to people experiencing homelessness. Her efforts did not start with a large organization or formal nonprofit; instead, her desire to help grew from her own health struggles during her younger years.

Kleinrichert and her mother, Amy, have organized donation drives and community events to gather supplies and raise funds for those in need. Before co-founding R.E.A.C.H., Kleinrichert even collected hundreds of boxes of Girl Scout cookies for The Rescue Mission, demonstrating her commitment to helping others.

Kleinrichert's community project continues to grow, as she recently planned another donation drive outside Parkview Field during a Fort Wayne TinCaps game on August 9. The donations were intended for M.I.S.F.I.T.S. Ministry, a nonprofit that directly works with Fort Wayne's homeless community. Rather than soliciting money, Kleinrichert encourages individuals to donate items that can immediately improve someone else's life.
