UP: Two brothers get 20 years for gang-rape; mother jailed for aiding confinement

In Kanpur, a fast track court has sentenced two brothers, Anvaar and Chhotu, to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment each for gang-rape and kidnapping, according to case officials. Their mother, Usha Devi, received a four-year prison sentence for aiding the offence, the Additional District Government Counsel stated. The rape took place in Etawah in 2021, where the married victim was allegedly abducted and confined for nearly three months, enduring the assaults.

She managed to alert her family after the attackers left to attend a wedding, leading to her rescue by police and the arrest of the accused. The court relied on the survivor's testimony and medical evidence in convicting the two brothers and their mother.
