Ukraine liberated 745 square kilometers in Oleksandrivka sector since January, Zelensky says

Since January, Ukraine has reclaimed 745 square kilometers in the Oleksandrivka sector and claimed the lives of approximately 10,000 Russian soldiers, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky on August 12. The counteroffensive was initiated in late January in the southeastern region where Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Donetsk oblasts meet.

As a result of the operation, Ukraine has regained control over 26 villages in the Dnipro, Donetsk, and Zaporizhia regions. Russian casualties are estimated to be around 9,550 killed, with over 6,600 wounded, while an unknown number of soldiers were captured. In March, Ukraine reported the liberation of an additional 470 square kilometers (180 square miles) in the same counteroffensive.

Military analysts have cautioned against making claims about territorial gains due to the challenging and unclear situation in the gray zones along the front line.
