Two swimmers to receive S$10,000 scholarship each under new Joseph Schooling award

Two swimmers will each receive a two-year S$10,000 scholarship under a new award named after Singapore's only Olympic gold medallist, Joseph Schooling. The inaugural fund of S$200,000, which represents 20% of Schooling's monetary reward from winning Olympic gold in 2016, was established to support and inspire the next generation of Singapore's aquatic community.

The award aims to select and fund athletes who embody the qualities of resilience, purpose, and bravery that defined Schooling's journey, which began at the age of eight when he first dreamed of becoming an Olympic champion. The first recipients will be chosen by the end of the year, with coaches submitting progress reports after the first year to confirm eligibility for the second year of funding.

Nominations open on September 1, and athletes can apply through Singapore Aquatics' website. Once nominations are received, a shortlist of candidates will meet Schooling as part of the selection process, which is designed to create mentorship opportunities and connections to support young athletes' development.
