Twitch Now Trains Amazon's Generative AI Models On Your Channel By Default

Twitch has introduced a new feature that trains Amazon's generative AI content models using users' channels, with the setting being enabled by default. This can be turned off, but it is located in a hard-to-find spot within user settings. To disable the feature, users need to navigate to the Security and Privacy tab of their Twitch user settings and uncheck the "Training for Generative AI" toggle.

However, this only prevents Twitch from using the content for AI model training, not for other purposes, as per the Twitch Privacy Notice. While it's relatively simple to disable the feature, having it turned on by default is problematic for users who wish to avoid any association with generative AI. In fact, the top request in Twitch's User Voice forums is to make all AI features opt-out by default, with the post garnering over 13,000 votes and 4,000 comments, far surpassing the next three most popular suggestions.

This development signifies the increasing integration of generative AI features into our digital lives. It's also noteworthy that the infrastructure required to support and run these AI tools is driving the current RAM crisis, which has led to increased gaming hardware prices. AI features can be seen as a disadvantage for gamers, as companies are often set to turn such "features" on by default, rather than giving users a choice.
