Trump spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt to step down

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, the youngest individual to hold the position, announced she will depart her role at the end of the month, President Donald Trump revealed on Wednesday. The 28-year-old returned to the White House in May after taking a short leave for the birth of her second child. Leavitt has been a prominent supporter of Trump's "Make America Great Again" initiative and was described by the Republican president as one of his "most trusted aides" in a social media post.

He expressed his understanding and respect for her decision to prioritize her family. Leavitt will transition into a top outside advisor to Trump and an influential voice within the Republican Party. She recently returned to the White House following the birth of her daughter in May, and has a two-year-old son. Leavitt expressed her decision in a social media post, stating that she felt she could not provide the best care for her children while fulfilling the demanding responsibilities of the Press Secretary role.

Trump did not disclose plans for her replacement in the high-profile position. Prior to joining Trump's 2024 campaign, Leavitt worked as a spokeswoman for Maga Inc, a super PAC backing the president, and ran for Congress in New Hampshire in 2022. She previously served as a press aide in the White House press office and communications director for New York Republican congresswoman Elise Stefanik.
