Trump says US will 'keep' Hormuz strait control

President Donald Trump declared on Wednesday that the United States maintains control over the strategic Strait of Hormuz and intends to keep it. The nation possesses total command over the Hormuz Strait, according to Trump, who expressed this sentiment on his Truth Social platform. The US naval blockade has been likened to a "wall of steel" by observers, and Iran appears powerless to counteract this situation.

Throughout his presidency, Trump has consistently maintained that the US exerts control over the strait, which is crucial for the passage of energy and other goods shipments through the Middle East. However, Iran contends that it effectively manages the majority of the waterway and is poised to implement a toll system in response to the US military campaign that commenced on February 28.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Trump reiterated, "We have total control over the Hormuz Strait right now. They don't have control. We have total control. We own it." The US and Israeli forces have launched extensive airstrikes on Iran's military and executed numerous strikes on the country's leadership in the ongoing six-month conflict, which initially aimed to compel Tehran to relinquish its nuclear power ambitions and bring about a regime change.
