Trump says he switched planes after Nato summit because of possible threat

President Donald Trump revealed that he secretly changed planes while leaving a NATO summit in Turkey due to a possible threat from Iran. He stated that he had to follow the instructions of the Secret Service and the military. The switch occurred after Trump arrived in Turkey on a new Boeing 747-8 donated by Qatar, but he departed on the older Air Force One.

Journalists and some White House staff were on board the decoy plane without knowing that the president had boarded a smaller C-32A military aircraft. The public was not informed about the plane swap, and it was only later that they were told to keep their window shades closed. Trump claimed that Iran had a credible threat against the plane, but it was unclear whether the journalists and staff were aware of this. Trump has previously referred to himself as "Iran's number one target" during the summit.
