Tigers Call Up 8-Year MLB Veteran Reliever

The Detroit Tigers have welcomed back veteran relief pitcher Tanner Rainey from Triple-A Toledo. This move comes as the team seeks to bolster their pitching staff with a proven veteran. Rainey, 8 years into his MLB career, has been called up to join the Tigers' major league roster. Aside from Rainey, the Tigers also announced that pitcher Emmanuel De Jesus has been placed on paternity leave.

Rainey, who has yet to pitch at the major league level this season, has 39 games under his belt with Triple-A Toledo. There, he has compiled a 5-3 record, a 2.32 ERA, and 60 strikeouts, demonstrating a solid season. In 2019, he was instrumental in the Nationals' World Series victory.

Last season, Rainey made 13 appearances between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Detroit Tigers, posting a 0-1 record, a 11.17 ERA, and 11 strikeouts. Despite struggling last season, Rainey will now aim to make an impression with the Tigers following his call-up. Over his eight-season MLB career, spanning the Cincinnati Reds, Washington Nationals, Pirates, and Tigers, Rainey boasts a 5-11 record, a 5.52 ERA, 15 saves, and 247 strikeouts.
