Tiffany Haddish avoids jail time by pleading guilty in DUI case

Tiffany Haddish, the actress and comedian known for her roles in "Girls Trip" and "The Night School," has avoided further jail time by pleading guilty to a misdemeanor alcohol-related driving charge. The incident occurred in January 2022 when Haddish was caught behind the wheel of a white Ford Explorer in Peachtree City, Georgia, with her foot on the brake and appeared to be asleep.

This Tuesday, Haddish entered her plea by video, receiving a 12-month probation. In addition to this, Haddish was mandated to avoid drugs and alcohol, complete a substance abuse evaluation, perform 40 hours of community service, and attend a DUI counseling program. She was also credited for the four hours she spent in jail following her arrest.

During the hearing, Judge Jason Thompson noted Haddish's lawyers had already confirmed her plan to complete her community service through advocacy work for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Haddish expressed her excitement about the opportunity to make a positive impact. Haddish's charges were a result of an incident where someone called 911 to report seeing her asleep in her vehicle.

Haddish's legal team had argued for dismissing the case, citing personal and professional difficulties and a potential violation of her right to a speedy trial. However, the judge rejected these arguments. Haddish had also been arrested in November 2023 in California for suspicion of DUI, where she reached a plea deal, and the charges were dropped.
