The circle of life — garden-sized

The garden, once a barren, weed-ridden square, has transformed into a riot of colour and fragrance. The gardeners, a husband and wife, have painstakingly worked to turn the landscape into a haven of beauty. In the garden, day lilies and roses still bloom, while day by day, the garden continues to blossom and wither.

The garden, a living testament to the passage of time, has witnessed generations come and go. The couple first imagined the garden, envisioning a colourful display of flowers, shrubs, and fragrance. Over time, their garden evolved, with mint, oregano, lavender, and chives thriving in a narrow bed alongside the fence. A Buddha statue stood guard over the columbine and blue flag iris, while hostas and a rock garden added texture and variety.

A black lace elderberry tree appeared suddenly, its delicate flowers contrasting with sharp-toothed leaves. Despite the changing weather, the garden remained a source of solace, offering a sanctuary where neighbours gathered and cherished moments together. The garden has become a testament to the resilience of life, a living circle of growth, maturity, blossoming, and fading.

As the sun sets, casting silhouettes and casting aside the shadows, the garden becomes a place of contemplation, where the past, present, and future intertwine.
