Thailand warned of heavy rain, flash floods and rough seas

Thailand is bracing for a series of severe weather events on August 12, as the Meteorological Department issues warnings of heavy rain, flash floods and rough seas. The agency cautions residents in several regions to prepare for isolated heavy rain showers over the next 24 hours, with the northern, northeastern, central and eastern parts of the country at risk.

A persistent southwest monsoon is affecting the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand, contributing to relatively strong winds and waves that could exceed 3 meters in some areas. Authorities advise boat operators to exercise caution and avoid areas with thunderstorms, while small boats in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand should remain in port.

Temperatures are forecast to range from 22-27°C across much of the country, with highs of 30-34°C. Southwesterly winds will generally reach 10-20 km/h, but increase to 20-40 km/h in some areas, particularly in the east. The storm severity varies, with thunderstorms expected across 70% of the northern and northeastern regions, 60% in central and eastern areas, and 40-60% in coastal regions.
