Technologie: Südkorea will sieben ehrgeizige Tech-Projekte ausbauen

Seoul, South Korea is planning to become a global leader in future technologies, with a comprehensive strategy known as "Seven Major SEED." President Lee Jae Myung unveiled this ambitious plan, which includes projects spanning nuclear energy, quantum computing, space exploration, biotechnology, and more. The goal is to prepare for upcoming growth drivers by building upon the current chip and AI boom.

President Lee emphasized that South Korea should aim to be unassailable in ten or twenty years, boasting a "superior nation" in key strategic pillars.

Key projects include landing on the moon by 2030, developing a powerful quantum computer with 100 qubits by 2029, and introducing small modular nuclear reactors (SMR) by 2035. Other areas of focus are high-efficiency solar cells, advanced offshore wind technologies, hydrogen production systems, AI-based power grid technologies, space data centers, and South Korea's participation in next-generation aircraft programs.

Strengthening supply chains for critical minerals will also be a priority, with an investment of about $7 billion in material technology, components, and equipment by 2030.

The plans aim to address South Korea's shrinking workforce, diminishing economic growth, and the increasingly critical role of new technologies in economic competitiveness and national security. The government plans to streamline regulatory processes and accelerate the market introduction of emerging technologies. President Lee stressed the urgency of the project, stating that South Korea must choose whether to become a pioneer with unlimited possibilities or a follower at risk of falling behind.
