Supreme Court orders Samsung Securities to pay damages to NPS over 2018 dividend error

On August 11, 2026, the Supreme Court requested responses from several Central Ministries regarding a petition that demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation investigation into the activities of the "Cockroach Janta Party" (CJP) and the commercial exploitation of oral remarks made in court proceedings. Three-judge Bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant issued notice to the petition filed by Supreme Court advocate Raja Choudhary, who accused the Union government, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Bar Council of India and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of respondent status in the case.

The CJP's protests against NEET-UG paper leaks and the Delhi Police's crackdown on agitating students and youths in July 20, 2026, evolved into a political flashpoint, which resulted in no Parliamentary response from the Home Minister despite opposition pressure. Mr. Choudhary, represented by advocate Rajesh Singh Chouhan, stated that the petition was not a criticism of fair speech, dissent, satire, or constitutionally protected free speech, but a challenge to organized commercial exploitation and distortion of solemn court hearings into viral online content.

The virtual court hearing mechanism was muted, and media persons present physically witnessed the proceedings.

The petition argued that judicial hearings and exchanges between judges and lawyers were being reduced to clipped fragments, outrage algorithms, trolling cultures, meme warfare, emotional mobilization, and monetized virality. The Chief Justice's reported references to "cockroach" in relation to fake law degree holders on May 15, 2026, triggered public outrage and a viral online platform, 'Cockroach Janta Party' (CJP).

The petition contended that metaphorical expressions like "cockroach" reflected institutional frustration and procedural anxiety at the deterioration of legal professionals' standards. Such expressions, said Mr. Choudhary, have historically been used in literature, jurisprudence, constitutional discourse, political theory, and legal philosophy.
