Sulley Sambian vows to reclaim North East Region for NPP

North East Regional Secretary for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sulley Sambian, has declared his intention to bolster the party's structures and recapture lost ground in his region should he secure the position of Regional Chairman. A private legal practitioner, Sambian is competing against the incumbent to fill the chairmanship vacancy as delegates gear up for the party's regional conference this weekend.

Speaking to journalists about his campaign, he stated that his extensive grassroots party experience, coupled with his professional skills, have prepared him for the role of leading the NPP in a politically charged region as the home of the party's flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. "I am seasoned, tested, and fully capable of leading the NPP in the region as Chairman.

I am offering my expertise after years of service to ensure the region becomes a strong ally for our party," he commented. "I possess the strategy and mental acumen to succeed," he added. Sambian emphasized that the NPP cannot afford to leave its electoral prospects for 2028 up to chance and requires enhanced organization, discipline, and strategy to boost its performance.

Instead of focusing solely on his personal appeal, Sambian pledged to fortify the party's internal machinery and position itself to secure more parliamentary seats in the region. He contends that the 2028 elections will necessitate more than mere slogans and campaign promises. He stated that triumph will depend on finding the right balance between strength and intellect to reclaim and expand the parliamentary seats in the area.

Sambian's candidacy arises amid a closely fought regional chairmanship election in 2022. At the Nalerigu Regional Conference on May 27, 2022, incumbent Chairman Nurudeen secured the position by garnering 71 out of 146 valid votes. His main rival, former Yagaba-Kubore Constituency Chairman Akamara Bawah Henry, received 50 votes. With Nurudeen expected to run for re-election, the upcoming contest will likely determine whether delegates prefer maintaining continuity or endorsing a leadership change.

Currently serving as Regional Secretary, Sambian is leveraging his familiarity with the party's internal workings to demonstrate his eligibility for the chairmanship. He asserts that bolstering grassroots organization and strategic planning will be crucial to enhancing the NPP's electoral prospects in the North East Region ahead of the 2028 elections.
