SK hynix workers move to form integrated union, seek majority status

SK hynix employees are considering forming a single, integrated union in a bid to secure control over the majority of the company's workforce, according to industry insiders. The preparatory task force, comprised of employees, aims to file documentation for establishment and to officially launch the union as early as Wednesday. The union's primary goal is to recruit around 18,000 of the company's approximately 35,000 employees, thereby attaining majority status.

Currently, three distinct labor unions negotiate with management on an individual basis. The task force, serving as an interim organization for the integrated union, was established voluntarily by employees and will continue until an elected union leader and executive committee are in place. The task force emphasizes that creating a union where all members have equal voting rights, and decisions are made directly, is their top priority.

Performance-based compensation is another key issue the union is addressing. Additionally, the union is exploring the possibility of forming an alliance with the largest labor union at Samsung Electronics Co., SK hynix's competitor in the chipmaking industry.
