Six British Shorthair mix cats abandoned in Dubai apartment, building management and rescuers step in

Six British shorthair mix cats were discovered abandoned inside a Dubai apartment, having gone without food or water for weeks, according to lease adviser Abbas Ali Sait. The tenant departed the Prestige Building property amidst legal issues a month ago, leaving the cats in a dire situation. Building management only learned of the cats' presence after receiving clearance to enter the apartment around a week and a half following the tenant's departure.

The cats were malnourished and dehydrated, with no access to food or water during their prolonged absence. Following their discovery, building management initiated feeding efforts, while Dubai-based animal rescuer Maha Shah became aware of the cats through an Instagram video. Upon inspecting the apartment, Shah found the living conditions dire, with only one litter box accommodating all six cats.

Despite their approachable demeanor, the cats required urgent veterinary attention. Shah and her friend have taken on the responsibility of caring for the cats until they are medically treated and prepared for adoption, both locally and internationally. This incident underscores the potential hazards for pets when owners abandon properties without making arrangements for their well-being.
