SIU investigating man’s death in Oshawa, Ont., after he refused to leave woman’s home

Ontario's police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), is probing a man's death in Oshawa, Ontario after he allegedly refused to leave a woman's home over the weekend. According to the SIU, a woman contacted police late Sunday night to report an unwanted man inside her Oshawa home. Upon arrival, Durham Region police found the 42-year-old man still inside the residence and unresponsive to officers.

The police watchdog states that officers forcibly entered the home and discovered the man to be "unwell." He was promptly transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday night. The SIU has assigned three investigators and one forensic investigator to the case, after first reporting on the story on August 12, 2026.
