Search for infant at Port MacDonnell wraps up, as police call for end to 'rubbish' chatter

The search for a three-month-old infant, Lewis, in Port MacDonnell has concluded, with police stating it is unlikely his body will ever be found. The tragedy stems from a suspected murder-suicide involving Helena Wright, 36, and her 23-month-old daughter, Hazel, whose bodies were recovered on July 27. Superintendent Trent Cox, the Limestone Coast officer in charge, reported that efforts to locate Lewis continued until last week, but they were unable to find him despite multiple dives.

While formal search efforts have been halted, police have warned the public to refrain from speculating on social media, as the rumors could cause distress to the victim's loved ones. Superintendent Cox emphasized the need for factual information, stating that the community's need for updates has caused distress due to the "rubbish" circulating online.

SA Police Commissioner Grant Stevens confirmed Wright contacted police the night before the incident, and the police are preparing a comprehensive report for the coroner. Stevens also mentioned the ongoing review of police actions following such critical incidents to ensure improvements in service delivery.
