Sarawak Immigration detains 42 foreigners over suspected immigration offences

KUCHING, Aug 12 — The Malaysian Immigration Department in Sarawak has apprehended 42 foreigners suspected of violating immigration laws, according to a report from The Borneo Post. The enforcement operations, conducted by the Kuching division from 10pm on August 10 until 3am on August 11, involved inspections at three locations - shared houses and rented rooms along Jalan Merdang Limau, Kota Samarahan and Mile 6, Jalan Penrissen.

According to the department, 45 individuals were scrutinized during the operations labeled Ops Sapu and Ops Kutip, resulting in the arrest of 42 suspects on charges of unlawful entry and overstaying their visas, as per Section 15(1)© and Section 6(1)© of the Immigration Act 1959/63, respectively. The initiative followed complaints and intelligence gathered by the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Division to ensure adherence to immigration regulations.

The department stated that such enforcement measures would continue, based on intelligence and public complaints, and urged citizens to report any suspected breaches of immigration laws to the authorities.
