Salesforce leverages AWS partnership to host cloud platform in SA

Salesforce has utilized its established collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to establish a local cloud platform in South Africa, named Hyperforce. This development provides South African businesses the capability to store their data within the AWS SA (Cape Town) Region, ensuring compliance with local data residency regulations without dependence on external capacity or data centers.

Linda Saunders, the country manager and senior director of solution engineering for Africa at Salesforce, highlighted that while the cloud platform has been accessible to South African companies, the local hosting option allows for more expedited deployment of new solutions and services. Saunders emphasized the significance of this development, particularly for organizations in sectors like government, financial services, and telecommunications, where stringent data residency and compliance requirements are commonplace and subject to ongoing changes.

During an interview on ITWeb TV, Saunders discussed the influence of emerging technologies, including AI and cloud computing, on customer relationship management (CRM). She noted that while regulatory complexities may pose challenges, it is feasible to maintain compliance without impeding innovation. Saunders stressed that the company is committed to balancing compliance and innovation, ensuring that discussions revolve around achieving the right outcomes and working backwards from these objectives.

By hosting Hyperforce in South Africa, Salesforce has positioned the infrastructure for its AI platform, Agentforce, including the Agentforce Trust Layer – a governance mechanism that oversees interactions between private enterprise data, users, and external AI models. With Hyperforce now residing in the country, South African businesses can leverage agentic AI while ensuring their data and AI activities remain governed by locally hosted infrastructure and controls.
