Ruto set to host 5,000 Kenyans at KICC for Vision 2060 dialogue

President William Ruto is preparing to host over 5,000 Kenyans from the nation's 47 counties at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. The event will serve as the inaugural public participation forum for the formulation of the country's Vision 2060 economic transformation plan. Kenyans are anticipated to share their perspectives on the country's long-term development priorities through memoranda submitted during the dialogue.

These contributions will form the foundation of a National Development Charter, which will later be transformed into a Bill and presented to Parliament for consideration.

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi explained that the engagement aims to empower Kenyans to shape the country's development agenda and determine Kenya's trajectory beyond the current Vision 2030. The dialogue, rooted in the Constitution's provisions for public participation, will be the starting point for informed decision-making on the Vision 2060 plan. Participants will include representatives from the judiciary, legislature, and various stakeholders across the nation.

Mbadi emphasized that the initiative is not limited to the president or the government. He urged Kenyans with alternative ideas to share them during the dialogue, emphasizing that the vision belongs to the entire nation. The national dialogue will concentrate on long-term economic transformation, focusing on robust institutions, human capital development, and inclusive economic growth.

The proposed framework aims to define Kenya's post-Vision 2030 development agenda and establish policy foundations to position the country as a first-world economy.

According to Mbadi, achieving first-world economic status within the next 25 years is a pivotal goal for Kenya, making broad public participation crucial in shaping the proposed roadmap. Once the National Development Charter is adopted, it will be transformed into legislation and presented to Parliament. If both Houses approve the Bill, it will be presented to President Ruto for assent, thereby solidifying the agreed-upon development priorities in law.

The dialogue will thus provide a platform for Kenyans nationwide to deliberate on the country's future and contribute ideas that could shape its economic and development agenda for generations.
