Rosmah granted conditional stay on RM67.5m jewellery payment

DATIN Seri Rosmah Mansor has been granted a conditional stay by the High Court to postpone the payment of RM67.46 million for the loss of 43 pieces of jewellery. The order aims to protect the rights of the company and ensure the money remains in Malaysia. Judicial Commissioner Marianne Antoinette Ghani allowed Rosmah to appeal at the Court of Appeal in Putrajaya.

She must deposit the amount into a joint account within a month from the decision's date. The payment was initially ordered after a June 2023 ruling that Rosmah was negligent for failing to return the jewellery, which was on consignment in 2018. Global Royalty Trading SAL claimed the company had documented proof that only one piece was in police custody, while the remaining 43 were never recorded as such. Rosmah attempted to blame the Malaysian government for the loss, but the company refuted this.
