Ragging is a punishable offence, warns KBN University official

KBN University's Pro Vice-Chancellor Syed Ashfaq Ahmed cautioned students against engaging in ragging, warning it could result in the cancellation of their admission. Addressing the launch of Anti-Ragging Week, Prof. Ahmed emphasized that student life is a crucial period for developing good habits and making responsible choices.

He stressed that ragging could cause mental distress, fear, and negatively impact students' future prospects. Prof. Ahmed explicitly stated that "Ragging is a punishable offence and admission can be cancelled."

University Registrar Mir Vilayat reiterated that ragging has no place at KBN University and students should be protected from mental and physical abuse masquerading as fun. He urged students to refrain from putting themselves and others at risk and to report any incidents of ragging to the Anti-Ragging Committee or university management immediately. The registrar emphasized that those found guilty would face both legal and disciplinary consequences.

Student Welfare Counsellor Ashwathi highlighted the importance of raising awareness regarding ragging among students. A video on anti-ragging awareness was shown, followed by a seminar led by Mahalakshmi of the Faculty of Law, who discussed the legal aspects of ragging and the pertinent statutes.
