Qatar Charity provides cash assistance to displaced families in Somalia

Qatar Charity, with assistance from domestic donors, recently distributed $60 cash grants to 1,530 displaced families living in camps around Mogadishu, Somalia. This intervention is part of the organization's ongoing humanitarian efforts to provide support for vulnerable communities amidst escalating economic and humanitarian crises.

The project, implemented in the Deynile district, enabled each household to purchase essential food items, thereby easing daily struggles faced by vulnerable households. Abdulfatah Adam Moalim, director of Qatar Charity's Somalia office, emphasized that the project is part of a broader humanitarian package aimed at supporting families in severe need.

"Qatar Charity continues to respond to the growing needs of families affected by food insecurity in Somalia," he stated. Camp official Ibrahim Sheikh highlighted the critical nature of the assistance, noting that families are grappling with worsening food insecurity and soaring prices for basic goods. "Families in the camps are struggling to access food due to inflation and the high cost of essential items," he explained.

"This support has helped alleviate the burden on many families in dire need at a time when humanitarian aid was most essential." Beneficiary Huda Omar Farah expressed gratitude, noting that the assistance enabled her to buy food for her children after a period of hardship and hunger. Fellow beneficiary Kulthum Moalim appreciated the flexibility the cash assistance provided, allowing families to prioritize their purchases based on individual needs.

Qatar Charity, through this project, is part of its broader commitment to strengthen food security and improve living conditions for vulnerable communities in Somalia. In 2025, the organization launched 233 projects across multiple regions, benefiting over 267,000 individuals, demonstrating its dedication to supporting affected communities, addressing humanitarian and economic challenges, and fostering greater stability and self-reliance.
