Pune Mayor bats for dhol-tasha team urging civic admin to provide space for practice

Mayor Manjusha Nagpure has urged the municipal administration to provide space and permission for dhol-tasha teams to practice during the forthcoming ten-day Ganesh festival. The dhol-tasha groups, featuring traditional music instruments, are an integral part of Pune's cultural and social traditions. Nagpure emphasized the importance of encouraging and supporting these teams to preserve and promote this folk art for future generations.

She proposed that the space for practice should be made available in riverbeds, municipal open grounds, and other suitable locations where traffic would not be obstructed. Nagpure also called for the establishment of a single-window system or an easy online or offline permission process to avoid difficulties in obtaining separate permissions from various departments.

Furthermore, the administration should provide essential facilities such as lighting, sanitation, and temporary drinking water at practice sites. The municipal administration should collaborate with the police administration to lay down clear guidelines for noise pollution, time limits, and traffic management during dhol-tasha practice.

Nagpure stressed the need to strike an appropriate balance between preventing inconvenience to citizens and promoting cultural traditions, emphasizing that the collective responsibility lies in safeguarding the Dhol-Tasha tradition as Pune's cultural identity.
