Public urged to partner with NGAOs for security in Kirinyaga Central

Residents of Kirinyaga Central have been urged to partner closely with National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) to enhance security and public service delivery in the region. Deputy County Commissioner Josephine Mwengi, during the installation of Chief Justus Mwai in Kerugoya Location, stressed the significance of collaboration between security agencies, local leaders, and residents.

Kirinyaga Central comprises 12 locations and 39 sub-locations, and better cooperation among security officers, chiefs, assistant chiefs, and residents will improve the sub-county's security rating and promote a safer environment.

Mwengi called on the public to report individuals, including NGAOs, involved in alcohol abuse and other behaviors inconsistent with public service and community values. She urged the public to alert authorities about law-breaking activities, including misconduct by security officers. Mwengi also instructed NGAO officers to conduct frequent public barazas (public gatherings) to foster extensive interaction with residents.

Additionally, she advocated for business people in Kerugoya to establish a committee that would act as a liaison between the business community and security officers.

Mwengi emphasized the need for shared responsibility in combating illicit brews and drugs, stating that the issue cannot be solely addressed by security agencies. As the country nears the political campaign period, she called for peace and political tolerance, reminding residents that voting is confidential and that there is no reason to disrupt meetings organized by opposing political parties.

Meanwhile, Kerugoya's Operations Commander Evans Gitembe expressed concern over alcohol and bhang sales within the area, stating that security personnel are vigilant. Gitembe condemned the sale of second-generation alcohol, noting that some residents were selling the substances to their own children, potentially damaging the future of their own generation. He also warned against makeshift stalls selling drugs disguised among vegetable stalls to conceal illicit activities.

Gitembe cautioned against bars operating beyond legally permitted hours, as this provides opportunities for criminal actions. He supported Mwengi's call for the formation of a business community committee that would function as a control body and strengthen cooperation with security stakeholders.
