Progress on Record-Breaking California Skyscraper Hits Major Milestone

The Millennium Residences, a record-breaking tower in Beverly Hills, has received approval from the city, marking a significant milestone in its development. Standing at 418 feet and featuring 34 stories, the building will be the tallest in Beverly Hills upon completion. The developer, Millennium Partners, plans to break ground in 2027 and deliver 211 new homes, including 32 affordable units, to the city.

Designed by Handel Architects and Rios, the tower is located at 8300 Wilshire Boulevard and is expected to enhance the city's eastern gateway while adhering to thoughtful growth and high-quality design principles. This project is part of California's ongoing efforts to address its housing crisis, with many residents facing cost burdens due to high housing expenses.

The development process has been streamlined under California's Assembly Bill 2011, which allows qualifying housing developments on commercially zoned sites to receive expedited reviews. Millennium Partners has met the bill's requirements, including the provision of affordable housing, to secure the approval. The project also necessitates the demolition of an existing mini-mall and businesses on the site, with plans for a ground-floor commercial space of over 10,000 square feet to be leased to restaurants.

Some residents have voiced concerns about the loss of the mini-mall and its associated services. Millennium Partners has addressed these concerns by engaging with community members and local property owners through regular meetings and Eastside community meetings. The developer emphasizes its commitment to creating transformational projects that benefit the communities they serve.
