President Tinubu demands national coexistence amid rising tensions

President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to preserve the unity of the nation, emphasizing that no differences should lead to the country's downfall. Speaking at an event in Abuja, the President, accompanied by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, stressed the importance of dialogue in maintaining the nation's cohesion. He assured that his administration would continue to address insecurity and promote peace, stating, "We should talk and remain in this country, allowing it to remain a united nation."

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, cautioned politicians against exploiting religion and ethnicity for political gain. He argued that Nigeria's diversity should be a unifying force rather than a source of division. Drawing from his personal experience during the Bauchi crisis, Yilwatda highlighted that violence impacts everyone, regardless of their faith.

"When violence comes, it does not ask whether you are a Christian or a Muslim before it destroys either your home or your humanity, or your dignity," he stated. He urged Nigerians, regardless of their religious beliefs, to recognize their shared hopes, fears, and aspirations. "We may worship differently. Or we may suffer together.

We dream together. We can build together. And ultimately, we can rise and fall together," he emphasized.

Yilwatda urged political leaders to refrain from using religion and ethnicity as political weapons, warning that temporary political gains could lead to long-term damage to the country. He made it clear that no political victory was worth the permanent harm inflicted on the nation.
