Petroleum dealers warn of indefinite nationwide shutdown

PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the government, threatening a nationwide shutdown of petrol stations unless concerns are addressed promptly. Speaking at a press conference, PPDA Chairman Malik Khuda Bakhsh outlined the association's demands, emphasizing the need for a minimum 8 percent margin on petrol to cover escalating costs such as electricity, gas, and employee salaries.

Over 14,000 dealers affiliated with the PPDA are demanding action, warning that petrol pumps could remain closed indefinitely if their issues are not resolved by 6:00am on Saturday, August 15. The association has also criticized the new 24-hour petroleum price change mechanism, deeming it impractical and creating financial uncertainties for dealers.

Additionally, the PPDA has raised concerns regarding the Company Allocation Policy, calling it discriminatory and detrimental to their business interests. Khuda Bakhsh stressed that the PPDA seeks a constructive dialogue with the government, the Petroleum Ministry, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), and other relevant institutions to resolve these issues.

However, the association warns that failure to address the concerns within the stipulated timeframe will force them to shut down fuel stations across the country, potentially impacting the retail supply of petroleum products nationwide.
