Perak DAP says it will remain in unity govt, back Anwar’s reform agenda

Perak DAP has unanimously decided to remain in the Unity Government and support Anwar Ibrahim's reform agenda, according to a statement released today. The party's statement emphasized that this decision was made to fulfill the people's mandate and continue Malaysia's reform agenda, led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Anwar's leadership has successfully implemented various reforms over the past three years, as well as enhancing Malaysia's global image and standing.

The DAP remains committed to implementing the Pakatan Harapan manifesto, which includes institutional reforms, judicial independence, anti-corruption efforts, reducing the cost of living, reforming the national revenue system, and protecting the rights and freedoms of Malaysia's multiracial society. Perak DAP stressed the importance of fully realizing these policies during the current term to drive reforms and spur national development.

Beyond the specific policy goals, the party also stressed the need for political stability. With four changes of prime minister in the past seven years, political instability has affected the economy and investor confidence. The DAP must avoid repeating this bitter experience and maintain the political strength of an inclusive, progressive multiracial society. This includes remaining in the Unity Government to provide balance, avoid extremism, and prevent the erosion of gains made so far.

The decision was reached ahead of the 2026 DAP Party Conference, which will determine the party's stance on remaining or leaving the federal government for the remainder of the current parliamentary term. A motion on this matter will be tabled by DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, to be decided by a vote of 4,264 delegates from 1,704 eligible branches at the conference in Putrajaya.
