Peggy Flanagan projected winner of Democratic primary for Senate in Minnesota

Peggy Flanagan has been projected to win the Democratic primary for the Senate seat in Minnesota, according to CBS News. This victory marks a significant triumph for a progressive candidate over the party's moderate faction. Flanagan, who was endorsed by the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL Party) at its May state convention, went up against Rep. Angie Craig in the primary race.

Her campaign focused on opposing corporate influence and confronting President Trump. Flanagan pledged to fight against tax breaks for billionaires, extravagant government spending, and inadequate support for working people, including affordable housing and a healthcare system that eliminates prior authorization. As the next senator, Flanagan assured her supporters of her commitment to these causes, vowing to "throw down" for them.

The Republican candidate, Michele Tafoya, is projected to win the primary and will face Flanagan in the November midterm election for the seat currently held by retiring Democratic Sen. Tina Smith. Flanagan is the highest-ranking Native woman elected to an executive office in the country and represents the White Earth Band of Ojibwe.
