Paris Saint-Germain defeat Aston Villa to retain UEFA Super Cup

Paris Saint-Germain secured their second consecutive UEFA Super Cup title by defeating Aston Villa 2-1 in Salzburg on Wednesday. The French champions maintained their hold on the UEFA Super Cup after a hard-fought match. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia gave PSG the lead in the 20th minute with a well-executed strike, putting the reigning Champions League winners ahead.

Aston Villa, last year's Europa League champions, equalized just before halftime through Bryan Madjo, leveling the score at 1-1. PSG reclaimed the lead in the 61st minute when Desire Doue added a second goal. Despite their best efforts, Aston Villa could not find an equalizer, allowing PSG to secure the victory. Somali referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan oversaw the game, marking his participation in the tournament despite being initially denied entry to the United States.

PSG previously lifted the UEFA Super Cup last year by defeating Tottenham Hotspur on penalties and have now managed to retain their title. The French champions will now focus on defending their French Super Cup crown, facing Lens in a crucial match on Sunday as they strive to continue their winning streak this season.
