Pakistani Deaf Student Makes History by Securing Scholarship at Prestigious US University

Muhammad Ahmed Khan has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Pakistani to receive the prestigious 2026 World Deaf Leadership Scholarship. The scholarship allows Khan to enroll in the MA Deaf Studies program at Gallaudet University for the upcoming Fall 2026 semester. Born to deaf parents, Khan had to abandon his education after matriculating in 2006 due to financial constraints.

He subsequently entered the workforce, eventually working at BankIslami and serving as Secretary of the Pakistan Association of Deaf Youth and Students (PADYS). Through the World Deaf Leadership Scholarship, Khan will now have the opportunity to pursue higher education at the world-renowned Gallaudet University, an institution dedicated to the education of deaf and hard-of-hearing students.

Khan's goal is to bring the knowledge and opportunities gained through his studies back to his home country, Pakistan, with the aim of improving educational and professional prospects for deaf young people. Khan views his achievement as a pivotal moment for deaf youth across Pakistan, demonstrating that there are more opportunities available and paving the way for others to follow in his footsteps.
