Osun poll: IG deploys DIG to coordinate security operations

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has assigned a Deputy Inspector-General, Ishyaku Mohammed, to Osun State to oversee security operations for the upcoming governorship election. CSP Ani Iniedu, the Force Public Relations Officer, revealed this in a statement on Wednesday, detailing that the deployment is part of efforts to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process across the state.

Mohammed will collaborate with other security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) and be backed by additional personnel deployed across the three senatorial districts. The Force assures that comprehensive security measures are in place to protect voters, INEC officials, election materials, polling stations, collation centers, accredited observers, and media practitioners before, during, and after the election.

Disu emphasized that any attempt at ballot snatching, voter intimidation, political violence, or other electoral offenses would be met with arrests and prosecutions. The deployment comes amid heightened security preparations for the election on August 15, with the Commissioner of Police, Erale Etaifo, confirming the deployment of approximately 15,000 police operatives, including specialists and medical personnel, to ensure a secure electoral process.
