Osun police arrest four over attempted murder, firearms possession

Four individuals have been apprehended by the Osun State Police Command in Modakeke, Ife East Local Government Area, on suspicion of conspiracy, attempted murder, assault causing harm, and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms. The arrests came after a petition was made to the Commissioner of Police regarding the alleged offenses.

The Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, announced that the suspects were seized at approximately 2 a.m. on August 9, 2026. The individuals identified as Olufemi Olatunji, 39; Ajayi Idowu, 31; Akingbala Oluwakemi, 40; and Adekunle Basirat, 40. Searches of their residences led to the discovery of two firearms, a locally crafted cut-to-size firearm and a pump-action firearm.

The locally made firearm was found in Basirat's shop, while the pump-action firearm was seized from Oluwakemi's residence. Basirat is linked to Solomon Akinlabi, also known as "Indomine," and Oluwakemi to Akingbala Akindele, known as "Ostand." The suspects are currently under police custody and are co-operating with the ongoing investigation.

In a related operation, the Violent Crime Response Unit apprehended six individuals suspected of being part of an unlawful society following reports of an armed invasion of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, resulting in injuries to two students. The six suspects, Ajoba Akorede, 27; Adam Oseni, 27; Ogunrinde Ayomide, 21; Ogunlana Muheez, 26; Ajose Noah, 25; and Adeniyi Damola, 25, confessed during questioning to being members of the Aye confraternity.

While the police have not confirmed their student status, investigations into both cases are ongoing, with the suspects expected to face court upon the completion of investigations, and efforts persist to locate other individuals connected to the Modakeke case.
