‘Order to shoot anyone, anytime?’: Father of Ludhiana man shot 5 times

Jawahar Singh, a 55-year-old autorickshaw driver, remains distraught over the fate of his 25-year-old son, Harjinder Singh. Four days after receiving a call that Harjinder was involved in an accident, the family learned that he had been fatally shot five times. On August 7, Harjinder left his home in Ludhiana's Jot Enclave, telling his mother to prepare lady fingers for dinner. He was later found dead at the hospital, with multiple bullet wounds and fractures.

According to Jawahar, Harjinder was reportedly ambushed while dropping off three friends—Sandeep, Ravi, and Janu—in his car in Swatantra Nagar. CCTV footage revealed a group of men dragging Harjinder from the vehicle, assaulting him with weapons and firing rounds of gunfire. The brutality of the attack has left the family questioning the law and order situation in the city.

The police have arrested two accused, Mohit Kumar and Manjeet (also known as Bobby), who are believed to be part of a local gang with a history of violent crime. However, the family refuses to cremate Harjinder until all named individuals in the FIR are apprehended. Four other suspects remain at large. Jawahar maintains that his son was targeted for no reason, as the assailants were initially pursuing Harjinder's friend, Sandeep.

Police, however, claim that the incident involved two groups of individuals with a prior history of antagonism.
