Nyong’o: Don’t link beyond Vision 2030 to next elections

Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang Nyong'o has urged Kenyans to refrain from connecting discussions about Vision 2060 to the upcoming general elections scheduled to take place within the next twelve months. Addressing the launch of the National Conversation: Beyond 2030 in Nairobi, Nyong'o stressed that long-term development objectives should be detached from politics and not be subject to the fluctuations of electoral cycles.

"This conversation is not about the next general elections," he emphasized. "Instead, it's crucial to draw valuable lessons from countries in Asia that have experienced socio-economic transformation, where long-term development goals were safeguarded from the disruptions caused by periodic elections and the subsequent political leadership changes."

Furthermore, Nyong'o clarified that the entity responsible for crafting Vision 2060 does not possess a preconceived plan; rather, they have provided some guidelines on how to develop this blueprint. "This meeting marks the initial stride in a journey that should not be rushed," he stated. Nyong'o appealed to the Kenyan populace to engage in the conversation with a focused mindset aimed at shaping the nation's future plan and achieving consensus on the most effective strategies for attaining shared prosperity.

He urged Kenyans to grant themselves ample time to participate in an inclusive dialogue concerning the future of their country.

In a separate address to the nation the previous month, President William Ruto reiterated that the process would be inclusive, transparent, and citizen-led, asserting that a national vision cannot be solely authored by the government.
