NSA, minister of defence, others storm US over insecurity in Nigeria

Nigerian officials, including the National Security Adviser, NSA Nuhu Ribadu, and the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, along with other key ministers, recently journeyed to Washington, DC to participate in a critical meeting. The National Security Adviser spearheaded the delegation, aiming to address the country's pressing security concerns during the United States-Nigeria Joint Working Group meeting.

The primary focus of the meeting was on counterterrorism efforts, the progress made thus far, and the next steps in strengthening security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States.

The meeting is significant as it comes amid the recent designation of Nigeria as a 'Country of Particular Concern' (CPC) by the US President, Donald Trump. This action underscores the US concerns over the security situation in Nigeria. The delegation also includes the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; the Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele; the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi; and the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sola Enikanolaiye.

The Nigerian delegation's arrival in the US is a clear indication of the seriousness with which Nigeria is handling its security issues, and the willingness to engage with its international partners to find solutions.
