Now, from a Rajasthan village, a familiar question: ‘If all acquitted, who killed 5 Dalits?’

The Special SC/ST Court acquitted all 40 accused in the killing of five Dalits in Dangawas village of Rajasthan on May 14, 2015. A court official stated, "Ghatna siddha hai, karta asiddha (The event is proven, the doer is not)." This statement encapsulates the tragedy of Dangawas, as the court believes that murders, injuries, and mass violence were proven, but no killers were identified.

The victims included Govind Ram, whose brother, father, and uncle were also killed. Govind, who was preparing to move to AIIMS-Patna after completing his nursing diploma, was left devastated by the violence that lasted about half-an-hour. The village lies on the Ajmer-Nagaur road, just outside of Merta City. Since 2015, a police tent with two personnel has been stationed round the clock in the unofficial center of the village.
